Nominate Outstanding Citizens

Nominations are now open for the 2016 City of Melville Mayor's Valued Citizen Award, Mayor’s Youth Citizenship Award and 2017 Australia Day Awards, recognising volunteers, persons or groups for their outstanding contribution to the Melville community.

City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey encouraged the community to take part by nominating worthy recipients by Friday, 21 October 2016.

“The Mayor's Valued Citizen Award is a wonderful way to recognise the contribution of long serving volunteers in the community who have dedicated their time to an unpaid role for ten years or more,”

“It is also important to recognise the younger members of Melville who go the extra mile to contribute to their school or community, so we encourage principals and fellow students to nominate a worthy student for the Mayor’s Youth Citizenship Award.”

“These awards are a way to acknowledge the incredible commitment of volunteers who give their time selflessly for the benefit of others, and gives us an opportunity to thank those who help make the community more connected and supported because of their ongoing dedication,” said Mayor Aubrey.

Nominations are also open for the prestigious 2017 Australia Day Awards, with categories for Citizen of the Year, Youth Citizen of the Year and Community Group of the Year. All nominations for the Mayor’s Youth Citizenship Award will automatically be included in the 2017 Australia Day Awards - Young Citizen of the Year Award.

On Friday, 18 November 2016, winners of the Mayor's Valued Citizen and Youth Citizenship Awards will be invited to a volunteer recognition event at Wireless Hill Park to receive their award, while winners of the Premier’s Australia Day Active Citizenship Award 2017 will receive theirs at an Australia Day Active Citizenship Breakfast Ceremony on Monday, 26 January 2017.

The winners of the Premier’s Australia Day Award will also receive $400 to donate to their community group or chosen charity, while their nominators will each receive a $100 for the same purpose.
