Councillor Patricia Phelan

Palmyra - Melville - Willagee Ward

Background & Experience

Patricia has served over 19 years as Ward Councillor including two terms as Deputy Mayor. Her training includes governance, town planning, corporate strategy, community development, elder care and cultural diversity.

During her previous term as Councillor 1994- 2009, she worked tirelessly and achieved over 5% more public open space and parks to offset the increased development occurring in Palmyra, Melville and Willagee. In addition to 5 local parks and play areas within the ward, Patricia championed the purchase and development of the Melville Primary School and Carawatha Primary School sites that are now first class play and community spaces.

Patricia has been honoured with a Distinguished Service Award and an award for Long and Outstanding Service to the Community from the West Australian Local Government Association and a Distinguished Service Award from the City of Melville. On a personal note, she has lived in the ward – first in PaImyra and then Willagee for more than 20 years.

She and her partner enjoy being grandparents to a lively toddler and being involved in the community on a voluntary basis, including Neighbourhood Watch.
